Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Makes History As The First Maldivian Institution Ranked In The Impact Rankings 2025

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Ranked No. 1 among all public and private universities / colleges in the Maldives and placed among the world’s top 20 – 25 % academic institutions for sustainable impact.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first and only educational institution in the Maldives to be ranked in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025. Securing a position in the 401–600 band globally, with an overall score of 75.6 out of 100, prestigious recognition places Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ among the world’s leading universities in driving progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This landmark achievement signals the college’s commitment to academic excellence and sustainability, and its broader mission to create meaningful, measurable change—both locally and globally. It also marks an important moment for the Maldives, as the country takes its place on the map of global higher education.

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings is the most widely recognized global framework that evaluates universities based on their contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - a set of 17 goals established in 2015 to address the world’s most pressing challenges by 2030. Using a set of carefully designed indicators, the rankings offer a comprehensive and balanced comparison of institutions across four key dimensions: research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.

For the 2025 edition, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ submitted data in five key SDG categories, earning commendable scores across all. Notably, research contributed 27% to the score in each category, underscoring the central role of academic inquiry in driving change.

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored above the global average in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, reflecting the institution’s ongoing efforts to improve health outcomes and support community well-being through education, research, and outreach.

SDG 4: Quality Education:

In the Quality Education category, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was ranked among the top 200 out of 1,975 institutions worldwide. Achieving an impressive score of 73.9, well above the global average of 46.6, this result places Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in the top 10% of universities globally for their commitment to inclusive, high-quality education.

SDG 5: Gender Equality.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ranked in the top 300 out of 1,559 institutions worldwide in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for SDG 5: Gender Equality. With a score of 62.1, well above the global average of 44.7, this recognition places Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ among the top 20% of universities globally in this category.

SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ranked in the top 300 out of 1,265 institutions worldwide in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. With a score of 64.9, surpassing the global average of 49.1, this recognition places Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ among the top 25% of universities globally in this category.

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

With a remarkable score of 86.5, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ranked in the top 300 out of 2,389 institutions worldwide in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals—well above the global average of 52.17.

Ranked 401–600 Globally: What It Means

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s placement in the 401–600 band globally out of over 2,500 participating institutions in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025 reflects the institution’s growing international presence, recognition and performance.

This ranking goes beyond traditional academic output, offering a holistic assessment of a university’s contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It highlights Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s performance across teaching, research, outreach, and stewardship—key dimensions that define a university’s real-world impact

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ achieved scores above the global average across all evaluated SDGs, and ranked within the top 20- 25% of institutions worldwide in SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)—highlighting the College’s strong and consistent impact in key areas of sustainable development.

A First for the Maldives

This recognition is not only a first for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ but a national milestone for the Maldives. No other institution in the country has previously been featured in the THE Impact Rankings. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s inclusion highlights the growing quality and ambition of higher education in the Maldives and sets a benchmark for other local institutions to aspire to.
