A distinguished team from Â鶹ÊÓƵ, including Dr. Fazeela Ibrahim, Dean of Research, alongside Dr. Mamdooha Ismail and Dr. Aishath Selna, Senior Researchers at the Institute for Research and Innovation, actively participated in the 7th Arab Water Week. The prestigious event was held from 4–8 May 2025 at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center, Dead Sea, Jordan. This premier regional platform convened researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from across the Arab region and beyond to address critical water sustainability challenges and foster regional cooperation.
The team's participation was a key component of the 3SWater project—a multidisciplinary research initiative aimed at advancing water sustainability in vulnerable and small island contexts. During the conference, they delivered a significant presentation, sharing valuable insights derived from the Maldivian component of the project. Their findings underscored the crucial role of community perceptions and traditional practices in shaping water source preferences, demonstrating how these insights can inform more sustainable and context-specific water planning.
Following the conference, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ researchers also took part in the 3SWater project's official meeting on 7 May 2025. This meeting focused on crucial aspects such as final reporting, financial updates, and engaging discussions on emerging research themes for future collaboration.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ's active involvement in this international research collaboration underscores its growing commitment to global sustainable development efforts, particularly in relation to SDG 6 and SDG 13. This participation also affirms the College's role as a leading research institution in the Maldives, contributing to transdisciplinary approaches to address the pressing environmental challenges faced by small island developing states (SIDS).
